THE CHALLENGE

Interaction Design introduces students to how people interact with both physical spaces and digital systems in their everyday lives. Using real-world examples, students will explore how thoughtful design can make environments more intuitive, efficient, and responsive to human needs.

Throughout the course, students will use tools such as MakeyMakey and Scratch to design and build interactive prototypes for smart home systems. They will create projects focused on home automation, security, and personalisation, experimenting with how inputs and outputs work together to respond to user actions. Students will design, test, and refine their ideas, considering usability, accessibility, and how people experience their designs.

Students will learn key concepts of interaction design, including user experience, systems thinking, inputs and outputs, and prototyping. They will also develop creativity, problem-solving, and empathy as they design solutions that respond to real human needs.

By the end of the course, students will have created a functional smart home prototype and understand how interactive systems are designed to improve everyday living.
